It has become a habit, dare I say Tradition, that I publish a selection of photos of the enigmatic British Summer.
Summer in the UK is like a box of chocolates, to take poetic license from the lead character in the film Forrest Gump: “Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna
Well, the Great British Summer is like that. Even the smart guys at the Met Office have a tough time.
About 5 days ago, I checked the weather for Bank Holiday Monday, the 31st of August.
It promised a sunny day. Yes, there may be a few scattered showers, but in the main, sunny weather.
I had PLANS.
I wanted to go the Oxted and Edenbridge Agricultural Show. My weather order was ‘sunny, please.’
Clearly, I don’t hold much influence over these things. It poured down that day. No Oxted and Edenbridge show for me 😞 Been there, and done it in the rain, wind and mud. Once is enough, IMHO.
Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE summer in the UK. Summer is lush. Summer is abundant. Summer knows how to celebrate itself.
Weather-wise, it has been a fabulous summer this year, especially in the South East, despite the rain, wind and wet we’ve had on and off over the last few weeks.
This summer’s fun included an exhilarating driving experience, albeit on one of the wettest days of the summer, a fabulous day out in Brighton with perfect weather and a marvellous Ladies’ Afternoon Tea. I never made it to the Oxted and Edenbridge show. My daughter was the brave one and kindly contributed to this year’s summer collection.
And if you REALLY want to indulge yourself, go grab a cup or glass of what you fancy and page through the gallery below, complete with suitable captions to explain more. Enjoy!
