about me
Living life with ease and grace is my lofty aim. Simplifying the game of life is how I have learned to do this for myself. It comes from having survived several changes. Big hairy ones. And lived to tell the tale.
Mission
To share what I’ve learned. Wisdom. Insights. Discoveries. Great teachers. Universal truths. Things that have helped me and that can help you too.
Values
I strive to do the best for my clients no matter the challenge. My nature is to ‘make things better,’ and work together in partnership.
Out of Africa
A part of you stays behind when you move to another country. At first you don’t realise this. Slowly, you become aware of a gaping hole in your soul. A deep longing for the familiar colours of the sky, the mountains, the veld, the sounds and smell of the wind, sea and rain, the laughter and smiles of its people. And you realise that the heartbeat of the country of your birth will always be with you.
Such is the baobab tree for me. It soothes that deep longing, a symbol of the drum I march to and a metaphor for the work I do.
Hospital Rounds
Working in a hospital is an education. You learn about life. Death. Disease. There’s laughter and crying and caring for strangers. You see and hear things that shock you to the core and confound your understanding of the human race. There may well be other places where you come face to face with some of the horrors of daily life. I have my hospital rounds to thank 🙂
The IT chapter
As a radiographer you tell people where to sit, lie or stand and when to breathe. When you work with IT people and tell them what to do, you get a ‘Yeah right!’ sort of who-do-you-think-you-are look that subtly marks the point where your project goes off the rails.
It took me a long time to learn that the work in IT was not about the technology. It was about the people, the relationships. You get work done through people, so you’d better look after those relationships.
Joining the dots
Here’s where things came full circle. All the things I learned in IT, the corporate world, systems, managing projects, leading teams, and getting things done. This is now the bread and butter of what I do in my coaching and consulting. I mostly work with therapists. Psychotherapists, occupational therapists and therapists across all aspects of the well-being spectrum. And my many years in radiography? Well, it puts me right back in my clinic days where I learned to speak ‘therapeze.’
