One morning last week, I turned up at a blank piece of paper and started writing:
Just turn up at the page and write. Write the next word that comes into your mind. Write the next thought. It does not have to be profound. It does not have to be insightful. It does not have to be a wow-where- have-you-been-all-my-life kind of piece.
Then something magical happened.
Magic happens in the small moments when you really stop to listen to the sounds around you and you become aware of the underlying stillness from which all activity arise.
Magic happens in the small moments when you connect – really connect – with someone else, another person. It may be a total stranger; it may be someone close to you. In that heartbeat you acknowledge each other, a recognition of ‘I see you’, ‘I salute you’ and ‘I honour you’.
Magic happens when you connect with yourself. When you realise, even for a moment, that there is more to you than meets the eye, that your physical being is home to a life force and that life force is who you really are. That life force wants to live, love and let live. Your body is merely a vehicle through which that life force expresses itself; your body is that life force made visible; that life force can exist without your body and when your body dies that life force continues to be, even though its host no longer exists.
… Wow.
What magic might happen when you can see this in yourself; when you can see this in someone else; just for a moment?
What magic might happen when you concede that what you have seen in yourself and seen it in one other, is very likely also in everyone else; perhaps even in everything else?
What magic, what miracle is there right in front of you that you are not seeing? You are missing?
Whether magic or miracles, life happens moment by moment. Catch the magic in each moment. It does not have to be profound. It does not have to be insightful. It does not have to be a wow-where- have-you-been-all-my-life kind of moment. Notice anyway.
