This I know: Every thought, every decision, and everything we do, is based either on love or fear.
When we come from a place of love, life feels good, we’re full of laughs, smiling and enjoying ourselves. Things are simply positive!
When we come from a place of fear, we tend to be angry, worried, frustrated, irritated, feel down, and even depressed. Our outlook and our experiences are rather negative.
It can take great learning to understand that most of the time we live from a place of fear. It came as a big shock to me when I discovered this. Me? Ms Positivity herself? Living from a place of fear? Never!!
Boy was I wrong! That was all a long time ago. These days when I am in the grip of fear, I work to get to the bottom of it, acknowledge it, interrogate it and let it go.
What a surprise then to discover that I am more of a worrier than I gave myself credit for!
Oh yes, this is another thing I have learned. Just as you think you have cracked a particular life lesson and you’re smugly congratulating yourself, feeling rather self-satisfied and pleased for getting that one under your belt, the universe has a habit of serving the same dish up in a more subtle guise.
But I digress…
The Game of Life
I have been working through The Game of Life Workbook, compiled by Kate Large. This book is a modern, expanded version of Florence Scovel Shinn’s classic book, The Game of Life and How to Play It.
Kate Large has added a contemporary interpretation and plenty of exercises to help you implement Florence’s ideas which are as true today as they were when she first taught and wrote about them in the 1920s.
And that is where I found the exercise that revealed what a worrier I am.
A Little Spy Work
It is a simple exercise. Nothing complicated.
Each day for seven days, you simply evaluate your day and make a few notes on how much you lived from love or fear that day.
There is a handy form in the book that lists thoughts and experiences that come from love source versus those that come from fear source.
Every night before I went to sleep, I noted my thoughts and experiences for the day. Every day a mix of both love and fear-based thoughts showed up. With that focus on my thoughts and experiences, it quickly became evident that I had worrying thoughts on topics I never suspected I had concerns about. What’s more, it showed up every day.
Hmmm… Interesting! Very interesting that I should have those thoughts…
I added another dimension to the exercise.
Every day I gave myself an overall ‘living from love source’ rating and another overall ‘living from fear source’ rating. By midweek, it was apparent that my ‘love source’ thoughts and experiences outweighed the ‘fear source’ elements. A happy discovery.
Awareness is Key
This exercise can seriously change your life.
It will raise your awareness of just how much you live from love source and/or fear source. Awareness is the first chapter in the book of change and it’s curative. You’re halfway there with awareness because nothing will change unless you first become aware of what is going on. Sometimes that knowledge itself is the cure.
Over to you
Come on, be brave! Download the Living from Love Source Form and how to use it right here and do the exercise for a week. It takes 5 minutes at most every day and you’ll be amazed at what you will discover.
There is nothing to lose and much to gain.
What are you waiting for?
