Talk about an energetic body and most people are normally all ears.
So let me share what I learned about taking care of your body so you can have that dynamic energy associated with thriving physical well-being.
Fresh from the horse’s mouth, so to speak; from an event by Deepak Chopra, ‘The Future of Well-Being’.
Described as one of the top 100 heroes and icons of the century and credited as ‘the poet-prophet of alternative medicine’, Deepak started his career as a medical doctor, became interested in alternative medicine and is involved in the research of both mainstream and alternative medicine.
At a one-day event, he shared some of the latest scientific findings in the new science of Epigenetics, your thoughts, emotions and desires determine how you experience life, and Neuroplasticity, the ability of the brain to change due to changes in behaviour.
This means there is now scientific evidence to show that we CAN change and shake off our conditioned responses and patterns we learned from our experience, parents, society, culture, economics, history, and so on.
In this way (and more) the frontiers of science are beginning to merge with metaphysics and the wisdom traditions of the world.
The Body is a Process
Traditionally, doctors look at the body as an anatomical object.
However, your body is always busy doing something: eating, breathing, ingesting information, digesting food and so on, and your inner world, your desires and thoughts are always present and active. Even the health of the ecosystem of bacteria in and around your body, what scientists call the microbiome, is important. When you look at the body this way, you realise it is actually a process.
The question is ‘what can we do to help this process operate at optimum levels so as to keep the body energetic and free from fatigue?’
6 Expert Tips for an Energetic Body
1. Sleep
The brain is more active during sleep than when you’re awake. In the dream state, the body gets rid of stress.
During deep sleep, you connect with your soul. The unconscious, non-local mind, called the supra-conscious, never sleeps.
The conscious mind is concerned with the past or the future and when this is your only focus, you are sleepwalking. Sleep is most people’s way of getting in touch with their souls.
Get 6 to 8 hours of sleep, without the aid of alcohol, drugs or sleeping pills.
When you go to bed, have the intention to witness your dreams.
At the end of the day review your day on a scale of 1 to 10, where 10 is good and 1 is bad. A score of 4 or less, indicates a need for serious attention, 4 – 7 requires some attention, and above 7 indicates you’re thriving.
2. Meditation
Meditation takes you into deeper levels of awareness. Research shows that your genes respond upward of 40% positively to meditation.
3. Movement
Exercise, yoga, walking. Keep on moving during the day. The recommended equivalent of 10 000 steps or 5 miles a day.
The best way to get rid of tiredness is to move.
4. Emotional Stability
No drama. Get in touch with your own and other people’s emotions.
5. Diet
Eat food that is free of toxins. Food that is manufactured, refined, processed and GMO foods are full of pesticides and petrochemicals.
Eat more plant-based foods and fewer heavy meals.
Eat ‘the colours of the rainbow’, food that is naturally red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet or indigo.
Also include the 6 tastes in your diet: sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter and astringent.
Eat foods with plenty of phytochemicals, found in plant-based foods that are grown with the energy of the sun.
Use oils like Primrose oil, olive oil or sesame seed oil. It is also good to massage your body with sesame seed oil.
When your microbiome, the bacteria in your gut, skin and orifices (body openings like the mouth, ears, nostrils, etc) get inflamed with stress, this has an inflammatory effect on your genes.
You can help your body further by periodically detoxing or reverting to eating a plant-based diet for a few days to reset your digestion.
6. Quality of Awareness as it Relates to Time
This refers to how you experience time. When you practice mindfulness, your mind is on what’s happening NOW.
People who say they have no time are in a state of awareness that speeds up their biological clock. Their heart race, their blood pressure rises, and they breathe more rapidly.
You can raise your quality of awareness to time by focusing on your breath and or focusing on the sensations in your body.
The best time of your life is NOW, the people you are with NOW, the food you are eating NOW.
The Reward
Practising these tips helps you take good care of the process that is your body. In turn, you can enjoy a joyful, energetic body at all times.
I can attest that changing your diet and avoiding processed foods make a big difference. For health reasons, I have had to make some dietary changes, have lost weight and feel much better for it.
