Spring is in the air!
Snowdrops are out. So are the crocuses. Daffodils are beginning to show their colours. The days are getting longer.
In a few weeks, the last Sunday of March to be precise, clocks go forward one hour here in the UK. Then we’re into the long, light evenings. Bliss. I love it.
I’m definitely a spring girl. I was born in the springtime in the southern hemisphere. And yes, we have daffodils there in spring as well.
Back in South Africa, when my children were small, we lived in a house with a fireplace. The chimney breast was on an outside wall. At the time I did not appreciate how much heat was lost to the outside. My then-husband used to joke about how this fireplace was there for the benefit of the daffodils, so they could show up and bloom earlier! (Just in case you’re wondering, no, they did not flower before anyone else’s!)
I am a fair-weather gardener. I like to feel warm and comfortable when I’m out and about in the garden.
Here in England, that normally happens around May. A bit late to reap the benefits of a beautiful summer garden, but all is not lost. There are plenty of garden centres around where you can go straight for plants that are already relatively well established. They’re a godsend for the fair-weather gardeners among us.
Given the number of garden centres around, I’d say we’re a force to be reckoned with! And I am truly grateful to all the enthusiasts who toil all year, sowing, growing and nurturing those treasures we go hunting for when the sun comes out. Summer, indeed, all the seasons, would be dull without you! Thank you for your labour.
What would spring be without a spring clean?
As nature stirs from its sleep and prepares for another round of lavish abundance, what will you do to renew your home, your life, and your business?
Here’s a quick to-do list, in case you’re wondering what to do when it comes to spring cleaning your home.
What about spring cleaning your life?
When last did you take stock of those nagging ‘shoulds’ and frustrations?
When last did you contemplate what you really, really want to be doing personally or professionally?
When last did you consider what is zapping your energy, draining you and holding you back?
Dare I ask about your relationships? Do they energise you or drain you? Is it time to detox the toxic ones?
What about spring cleaning your career or business?
Back in the day when I started my working life, you were expected to ‘leave your personal life at the door’ and not let it affect your work.
Well guess what, when you have pain, whether it is physical or emotional, you can’t just take the hurting part of you and park it at the door. That’s like leaving your head outside the building when you have a headache. Sure you can take a pill; but there’s not a pill for loneliness, anger, frustration, low self-esteem and feelings that eat you from the inside out. These things affect us deeply. It comes out in ways such as poor performance, lack of confidence, indifference, apathy and affects every part of our lives, including our relationships.
It is so unnecessary.
Do something for yourself
If there’s something you want to change and are not sure how to go about it; or contemplating whether you should or should not, get in touch.
It’s as easy as grabbing yourself a space in my diary right here.
Metaphorically, we’ll sit under the Baobab Tree and have a good ol’ heart to heart. You talk, I’ll listen. And I’ll ask some questions to help you get clear about the topic under review or simply listen if that’s what you want. It is YOUR time after all.
Time for YOU. Just YOU.
How precious is that? How often do you get such an opportunity? Grab it now.
