A good few years ago, I was working with a personal coach who did her best to encourage me to write.
‘I don’t know what to write’, I bemoaned her ministrations.
‘Write anything. Just write. The words will come.’
She was persistent if nothing else. She gave me a question and challenged me to write a piece that I will push out into the world.
Eventually I complied, sat down with the question, trusted the words would come and they did.
‘What is the change you want to see in the world’, she had asked. ‘What is your wish for the world?’
‘That we’d see the beauty in each other and ourselves – that inner being,’ I heard myself say.
So here I am, writing, just letting the words come. Allowing my inner being to have its say; giving voice to it. Because how else will it say what it wants to say? What it came here to say?
It is tender, it is scared, a young shoot, old wisdom; emerging from the being it animates. And now I am allowing it. I am allowing that inner being who is the real me, to show up, stand up and say ‘Enough!’
Enough of the labelling, enough of the torture we put each other and ourselves through, enough of the blame.
Just shine! Let the spark through. Open your eyes and look. See the spark in the other person, see the beauty. More importantly, see it in your SELF. Because it IS there.
It matters not how much mud and debris and dirt has piled up on the mirror that reflects your world. We can wash the dirt away. Begin. Find a tiny spot that’s not so encrusted and look carefully and you’ll see the spark. Then stare in wonder at the magnificence it represents. Acknowledge it, honour it, respect it, connect with it every day. Yes, it may be uncomfortable. So what? What’s the alternative?
Ghandi said: ‘Be the change you want to see in the world.’
That means if I want my wish for the world to come true, it’s up to me to start, to be what I wish for all of us, to model it, live it. The responsibility is mine – one hundred percent mine.
Gulp!!
Oh, I can hear that voice in my head whining ‘Who do you think you are…?’
I AM.
I AM the one who sees, but needs no eyes to see. Who hears, but needs no ears to hear, speaks, but need no voice to speak.
I AM… and so are YOU. Yes you ARE!
