I have been listening to a radio talk show featuring Dr James Winborne of the International Academy of Metaphysics and Colin Tipping, Director of the Institute of Radical Forgiveness.
They were talking about the auspicious nature of the date – 11/11/11. This date is a gateway to higher consciousness, away from us (the global community) experiencing our world as a five-sense physical reality only and beginning to realise there is more to reality than the physical world.
Now we know that for things to change, the old has to give way and I am sure we have all been through enough change in our personal and professional lives to realise we do not like it, especially if it ‘is being done to us’. It is uncomfortable. It is invariably accompanied by fear and plenty of questions for which there may not be answers.
Why me? What now? What of the future? What will happen to us? Where will we end up?
Fear and uncertainty can play havoc with our lives, sending us into bouts of depression, anxiety and worse. So imagine the entire planet in a state like that!
So what are we going to do? Buckle under a turbulent cloud of fear? Or can we take the road less travelled, look at it from on high and see some divine plan? And rest in the knowledge that this divine plan has our greater good at heart; that the best thing we can do is stop resisting and simply surrender.
There is another thing we can do. All the Great Teachers throughout the history of our species have been teaching one thing over and over in all languages: give up weak attractors for strong attractors.*
I think of attractors as a form of energy.
Examples of weak attractors are revenge, judgmentalism and condemnation. These make you weak.
Love, compassion and forgiveness make you strong. They are examples of strong attractors.
It was from that place of strength that Mandela avoided civil war in South Africa and Gandhi gained the independence of India from foreign domination. Both advocated and practised love, compassion and forgiveness despite severe hardships and sometimes under immense duress.
Our work then is to let go of those feelings of revenge, judgments and attractors that make us weak and embrace strong attractors starting with love, compassion and forgiveness. In this way, we can build a strong inner core to sustain us in a world where the only constant is change.
